DTEN- Zoom Sharing and Annotation (Direct Share vs Meeting Share)

OVERVIEW

This article provides information about Zoom Sharing and Annotation features and comparisons of the different sharing features: Direct vs Meeting.

Question:

Why is it better to use Meeting Share over Direct Share?

Answer:  There are two ways to share content through DTEN:

1. Meeting Share is to join DTEN ME Zoom meeting and then share.
2. Direct Share is to share through a share code shown on the upper right corner of your DTEN.

While both could be used for sharing, Direct Share has two drawbacks:

1.) With Direct Share, you have no choice but to share the whole screen, with all content exposed. In contrast, Meeting Share allows you to select and share only a specific window you select and hence protects you from exposing sensitive content on screen.

2.) With Direct Share, you are not allowed to highlight content on your DTEN touch screen and hence not able to put the touch screen into use. In contrast, with Meeting Share, you could make notes on the screen, draw, and highlight at will.

Direct Share was designed for professional meeting presenters to share in big meeting rooms with TV monitors mostly without touch. It does not fit well in a work-from-home scenario.

Meeting Share is generic and universal. Further, its sharing is noticeably more fluent without user sensible drawbacks to Direct Share.

Hence it is strongly recommended to use Meeting Share over Direct Share when whiteboard and annotations features are needed.  

3.) Usability: Meeting Share is much more convenient than Direct Share. To use Direct Share, you need to look for and type in the share code each and every time.  This is time-consuming and can be error-prone. In contrast, when using Meeting Share, the Zoom meeting ID is remembered after the first use, you do not need to remember and enter in any number.
